The reformed South of Scotland rugby team took on the mighty Barbarians at Mansfield Park in Hawick on Tuesday 11th October 2011.

In aid of the Bill McLaren Foundation the match took place in the much loved and respected commentator’s home town in front of an eager and knowledgeable crowd.
Formed in 1901, the red and white hoops of the South jersey represent the rugby culture, tradition and history of this famous district team. In 1984 the South famously beat Australia 9-6 in a thrilling encounter. Another famous victory took place on Tuesday as the amateur select side came from behind to seal a 22-15 victory over their professional opponents.
